2011 Bears Draft Preview

Hello there guys. We are getting very deep into draft coverage. That means more team previews are going to be published faster with a lot more discussion. Today we are doing the Bears preview for the 2011 Draft. We are going to welcome Jenny Cain. A huge Bears fan that is ready to give her input on the Bears' 2011 Draft.

Brandon Sweeney: Jenny Cain, thank you so much for joining us today!
Jenny Cain: Sure! Thanks for having me!

Brandon Sweeney:  I always like to start with a little background on last season. Please reflect on last season for us. Tell what it was like to watch this team go as far as they did.

Jenny Cain:  It was a very exciting season with a very disappointing ending!  To be so close and then have it fall apart in the NFC Championship playoff game with Green Bay was a tough blow!

Brandon Sweeney: Tell us some of the good things that happened last year, and some of the disappointments.
Jenny Cain: Proud to be NFC North Champs! Also, it was awesome watching Devin Hester break the punt return record.  Biggest disappointment, the Bears not eliminating Green Bay when they had the chance!

Brandon Sweeney:  It is the first round of the draft, who are the Bears going to take?
Jenny Cain: would love for them to pick Nate Solder (OT Colorado) but I am concerned he is going to be gone before the 29th pick.  His size is amazing and he uses it well- very agile.  The Bears could really use a new big guy on the O-line.  Cutler is not just falling over on his own!

Brandon Sweeney: If this player doesn't make it to the Bears' pick, who can the Bears think about taking then?
Jenny Cain: Derek Sherrod (OT Mississippi State) would be another good choice if Solder is gone.

Brandon Sweeney: In the later rounds of the draft, what positions should the Bears try and fill?
Jenny Cain: think the priority is the Offensive line – Guard and Center.  Also, a WR, like Edmond Gates (Abilene Christian) along the way would be a nice bonus!

Brandon Sweeney: If this team gets what they need during the draft, what is your prediction for the Bears in the 2011 season? (assuming we have football in 2011)
Jenny Cain: I feel confident about the Bears next season!   The Defense looked good and I think they will continue to grow and improve.   I believe The Offense can pull it together and find their chemistry and lead the Bears to become a team that is Super Bowl ready!

Brandon Sweeney: Thanks for the great insight on the Bears 2011 Draft Preview. Would love to have you back sometime! Any thing else that you would like to say to the readers?
Jenny Cain: Just thanks for reading and I hope we all get to watch our teams play in 2011!

Jenny, as you can tell, knows what she is talking about. She is smart and a great person! She knows her Bears and she knows this Draft! Follow her on Twitter please @CainJN. She would be happy to talk Bears football with you guys. She does with me all the time. If you have any questions Bears' fans, leave them. Jenny will most likely answer!

  1. I agree with Jenny. The Bears should focus on drafting offensive lineman, including possible replacement for Olin Kreutz. There's no need to draft WRs since we already have enough talent in that position. I think they should wait until free agency to worry about a receiver. The offensive line needs immediate help.

For the later rounds, Chicago should pick up one or two linebackers and one large defensive tackle (similar to a nose tackle). The Bears need a few more linebackers in case Urlacher is lost for the season again (plus he's not getting any younger) or Briggs gets hurt. Also, it won't hurt the Bears to add a bit more size in the defensive tackle position. The secondary is solid, so no need to draft CBs and safeties this year.
