Falcons Draft Recap

1st Round Pick- Julio Jones, WR  Alabama
3rd Round Pick- Akeem Dent, LB Georga
5th Round Pick- Jacquizz Rodgers, RB Oregon State
6th Round Pick- Matt Bosher, K Miami
7th Round Pick(210 overall)- Andrew Jackson, OL Fresno State
7th Round Pick(230 overall)- Cliff Matthews, DL South Carolina

Personal Favorites: Julio Jones has good hands, and runs nice and smooth. He is a huge competitor. A tall receiver at 6'2, and a good possession receiver. In 2010 he had 78 catches for 1,133 yards, and 7 touchdowns. Has had injury problems though. I think that he is going to be a good reliable receiver for years to come and a complement to Matt Ryan and the Falcons.
Jacquizz Rodgers is one of my favorite running backs that was in this class. Is a small back, but his play at Oregon State showed the opposite. Only 5'7 and 194 pounds. He runs very hard. Always seems to fight for every yard and has good jive. He does not have fast straight line speed. Runs about a 5.50. He is more quick than fast, but reminds me of Ray Rice.

Needs to Prove: Julio Jones I think you have to say needs to prove the most out of this class. The Falcons put way too much into this decision. He needs to show that the Falcons made the right decision by giving away all of those picks to get him at number six overall. He needs to work on hand consistency. Not that he is a bad hands receiver, but will let the ball hit his pads instead of letting his hands catch everything. His route running is progressing.

Personal Notes: Not very impressed with the Falcons Draft overall. This will have to be one of my lowest grades because all of the value that they gave up for Julio Jones. I understand that if he does a great job this year, most people will say that it was worth it, but not always the case. If the Falcons have a decent season and somehow that defense will need to get depth, they already can't address that in the first round of next season unless you trade again. So this trade will effect the Falcons for years to come, and it may make them or break them. I think that it is important to get as much value and depth as you can in the draft and the Falcons were unable to do that.
Grade: C-

What do you think about the Falcons' draft? Did they used their picks correctly? Leave any questions that you may have. Please leave a comment readers and tell me if you would like me to break down anyone else from the Falcons' draft. I am more than happy to do so, and remember to vote on the poll on who had the best NFL Draft!

  1. Give them a D instead...they needed more help with LBs and DLs. Adding another running back was not a good idea, for they're deep in that position. And we all know about Jones' durability.
