Bears Draft Recap

1st Round Pick- Gabe Carimi, OL (Wisconsin)
2nd Round Pick- Stephen Paea, DL (Oregon State)
3rd Round Pick- Chris Conte, S (California)
5th Round Pick- Nathan Enderle, QB (Idaho)
6th Round Pick- J.T. Thomas, LB (West Virgina)

Personal Favorites: Gabe Carimi standing at 6'7 and 320 pounds, a team captain at Wisconsin in 2010.  Makes some bad decisions, particularly in the passing game. Sometimes he will not kickoff fast enough or just simply gets beat. A potential pro bowler, but still has those couple questions to answer.
Stephen Paea is a very good run stuffer. He is 6'1 and 295 pounds. I think that he needs to add a little weight to him. Plays angry, good tackler, and can be a quarterback nightmare. So strong that two people will need to block him. A steal in my eyes for the Bears. Needs to be more of a pass rusher. Has had a couple injury problems.

Needs to Prove: Chris Conte is a safety that has good balance, but has more to prove. Only has two career interceptions. Has only been the safety at Cal for one season. needs to prove that is his position. Bites on play action. If he can prove himself, he can help this defense in depth.

Personal Notes: A good draft in my eyes for this Bears' franchise. They have some good value picks. The Stephen Paea is probably the pick I like the most. Where the got him, his value, plus his great motor. Tommie Harris probably not coming back and they have found their replacement. It wasn't a draft where the Bears got stars. They got value and depth.
Overall Grade: B

  3. Their 5th round pick was a wasteful one. I would rather see the Bears keep Caleb Hanie as the #2 QB while looking for a free agent veteran when this lockout fiasco ends. I heard Enderle is only a QB with a rocket arm who needs a lot of help in getting into NFL mode. That pick could have been spent on a center/possible replacement for Kruetz. I don't know about Comte either...I probably need to see him play a few games before making further evaluation on his playmaking abilities

Otherwise, I'm pleased with the Bears' picks this year. It may not be star-studded, but at least they got valuable rookies who also fulfill needs in their respected positions.

    Overall Grade: B
