PFH 2012 Mock Draft - Picks (27-32)

Patriots, 27th Pick - Whitney Mercilus (DE), Illinois
Once again, the Patriots have two first round picks. This team always seems to know how to win on draft day. They find different ways to pile up on draft choices. As you see it helps them as they are the defending AFC Champions this year. Have to admire the way they get it done during the draft if your a fan or not. With this pick, I think the Patriots need help on the defensive line and this is a good start. Big guy that knows how to make plays. That's what Mercilus does. Smart pick if they don't trade again.

Packers, 28th Pick - Courtney Upshaw (OLB), Alabama
Courtney Upshaw is rising on quite a few boards, but if he falls to 28th overall, I think it would be a good pick for the Packers to take him here. They have a chance to have Matthews on one side and Upshaw on the other. Then you start getting in that discussion of who has the best pass rush defense in the league. Packers get to the quarterback well as we know, but this is just another improvement. Could also see them addressing the secondary here. Packers seem to have quite a few injuries in the secondary the past couple of years. Very interesting to see what they will do here.

Ravens, 29th Pick - Peter Konz (C), Wisconsin
Interesting pick here. The Ravens have several options with what they could do with this pick here. Like all other teams, there are things that they need to address more than others starting with the offensive line. The offensive line has some real age to it. All very good players, but could use a young interior offensive lineman in Peter Konz. Matt Birk isn't on the lighter side of his career and this veteran offensive line can make Konz an even better player. Makes sense to me why they would draft a player like this. Konz was a very good interior lineman and we will see if he can even be a guard at the next level.

49ers, 30th Pick - Reuben Randle (WR), LSU
Anyone shocked? That's right. I have Reuben Randle going first round to the 49ers. Why? Doesn't the 49ers have enough talent there counting the signing of Randy Moss and Mario Manningham? Randle could be the future and best receiver on this team if they snag him. Players that could teach him the ropes like Moss and Manningham. I think he could pass up Crabtree in the depth chart eventually and really give this 49ers team a reason to pass this season. What quarterback wouldn't want to pass to that group of receivers counting Vernon Davis at tight end. This could be a dangerous team in 2012.

Patriots, 31st Pick - Kendall Reyes (DT), Connecticut
With the Patriots' second first round pick, I have them taking stout Connecticut prospect Kendall Reyes. Reyes is a good talent and makes good plays. He could learn a lot just by Vince Wilfork. Not to mention the coaches. This pick could be big for Wilfork too. Now of course if you are a player, you want to play every single down possible of the game. Wilfork, who is another older veteran could stay a bit more fresh if they sub a guy like Reyes in and out and work with him on that. Wilfork, who is one of the team leaders, could definitely use that I believe. Players do slow down. Look at Steelers DT Casey Hampton. He is another old veteran slowing down and they need to answer that too. Then again, who is to say that the Patriots will stay at 31? We know how they are on draft day.

Giants, 32nd Pick - Dont'a Hightower (ILB), Alabama
Another guy raising on people's boards as we speak. This guy seems to have it all. Size, speed, quickness, and all the talent. Is raising on boards, but I definitely like him in New York if the Giants would have the chance to snag him. Was a very good physical player at Alabama. Made a lot of plays and always came up with big tackles when they needed it. I think Nick Saban is really sad to see Hightower leave the Crimson Tide. I think this is what the Giants need defensively. A young player that can improve that defense automatically. The offense was tough last year but the Giants defense could use work starting here. I do see Hightower raising though so it should be a good one to watch net week.
