With the first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Colts will select quarterback Andrew Luck from Stanford. Very worthy of the first pick in my opinion. Is the complete package for this Colts team and someone that they could use right after all the roster changes they have made. Sad thing is Luck will be living in the shadow of former Colts QB Peyton Manning who is now a quarterback with the Denver Broncos. Luck can make all the throws. When I watch his film, I already see a good NFL quarterback. Definitely the most pro ready quarterback in this class and a solid pick to start the new life of the Colts.
Redskins, 2nd Pick - Robert Griffin III (QB), Baylor
Another obvious pick here. Redskins made the big trade to get the second overall pick for a reason, and that's to get Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. Griffin has it all. Strong arm, accurate, pocket presence, and is very fast as we know. Very intelligent as well. I like Griffin a lot and I think the Redskins must love him for giving away three first round picks to the Rams. Played very well when he went to Baylor and definitely worth the second overall pick in this Draft.
Vikings, 3rd Pick - Matt Kalil (OT), USC
Would be a good solid pick here for the Vikings. Best tackle in this draft by far in my eyes. I really like Kalil. Big body at 6'7 and 306 pounds and will be a very good tackle on the left side for the Vikings. His brother Ryan, is the starting center for the Panthers, and started all sixteen games last season. Matt will be a stout left tackle in this league and in my eyes a future pro bowler for several years. Would be a wise pick here for the Vikings.
As we all know, the value of the running back position has dropped very low over the years. For the Browns, taking Richardson would be worth it in my eyes. Potential to be a three down back when I see him play, and there aren't many more of them in this league. Had minor surgery on his leg before the combine but performed well at his pro day. Can catch out of the backfield, and he really reminds me of Adrian Peterson when he runs with the combination of speed and power. Would be a good pick for the Browns who no longer have Peyton Hillis.
Buccaneers, 5th Pick - Morris Claiborne (CB), LSU
Another one of them solid picks here for the Buccaneers. Claiborne is a very young talented prospect out of LSU. Has very good cover skills, and has a nose for the football. Claiborne has good hands and can intercept the ball if he gets the opportunity. Very talented although maybe not as much as Patrick Peterson, Claiborne's former teammate. Claiborne is not as physical as Peterson neither, but that has to do with size. Claiborne is not as big but still very good.
Rams, 6th Pick - Justin Blackmon (WR), Oklahoma State
For some reason this pick just makes perfect sense to me. I think this is a perfect fit for Blackmon. I think new head coach Jeff Fisher could make him a better wide receiver. Is a highlight type player and arguably a better receiver than Dez Bryant who came from Oklahoma State a few years ago. Difference is, Blackmon doesn't have as much drama to him. Hard nosed type player and a guy that I really like in this class. In my eyes, the best receiver in this class by far. No other receiver has all the talents that Blackmon has and would be a great pick here for the Rams.
Jaguars, 7th Pick - Quinton Coples (DE), North Carolina
The Jaguars are under new ownership and new coaching this year, and usually that means starting fresh with a new quarterback and everything, but I don't see the Jaguars giving up on the first round quarterback they drafted last year, Blaine Gabbert. However, they could use a good, young, and talented pass rusher in Quinton Coples. Coples is very talented and someone I could see really helping the Jaguars defensively. Him alone, makes this a better defense. Has racked up 17.5 sacks in the past two seasons with North Carolina. A 6'6 284 pound monster at the end. Gives offensive linemen fits every single snaps. Only question with him is his motor. People question it, but not so much me. I think he is a very tough player and I don't see much of a motor issue. I think he is very worthy of this pick here.
Dolphins, 8th pick - Ryan Tannehil (QB), Texas A&M
Then there was the Dolphins. Here is a franchise that has not drafted a quarterback in the first round since Dan Marino in 1983. In fact, the Dolphins have not drafted a quarterback since 2009 in the second round by the name of Pat White. In the past several seasons, the Dolphins have tried finding a starting quarterback in free agency. Guys like Matt Moore, Chad Pennington, and Joey Harrington a few years back. Chad Henne doesn't really show signs of being a good leader and winner on this team. So this year, I think the Dolphins should really consider Tannehil. He has leadership and thrives on being a winner. You can't hope that free agency has all your answers. You need to build in the draft, and right here you have a potential winner in this league and I think the Dolphins almost have to take this shot before someone takes him.
Panthers, 9th Pick - Dontari Poe (DT), Memphis
In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Panthers took quarterback Cam Newton at the first overall pick. Many thought he was not worth that first pick, and said it was a big risk. Well luckily they did because Newton shows signs of being a very good quarterback for years to come. Making the pro bowl in his rookie season. With that Panthers offense building into something special, I think the Panthers should address the defense here. Big discussions this year on who is the best defensive tackle of this class. There are many talented defensive tackles in this class, but I think the best fit for the Panthers is Poe. Big guy standing at 6'4 and 346 pounds. started 30 games in three seasons at Memphis. Making 101 tackles and 57 of them were unassisted. Can help this defense big time like he helped the Memphis Tigers the past three seasons.
Bills, 10th Pick - Riley Reiff (OT), Iowa
As we know, Offensive tackles are always very valuable in the first round. Here, I think it makes sense for the Bills to take Reiff. A good talent from Iowa. More talented than Bryan Bulaga who came from there a few years ago. I think he is an instant difference maker. Will make this offensive line better. A real good talented prospect. Makes good sense here for the Bills.
